'Happy Family Plan' is a popular Japanese game show in which fathers take on challenges such as memorising the breeds of dogs or playing a musical instrument to win prizes for their families.

The film opens as Fujio, who has lost his job in the 1990s economic downturn in Japan, relocates with his wife and children to his father-in-law's home in Yokohama. As Yuko, his wife, opens her own business and the children settle into their new life, Fujio is left to his own devices.

Meanwhile, his son has secretly entered the family as contestants on 'Happy Family Plan' and, after losing money in a failed business venture, Fujio agrees to take up the challenge - he must learn to play 'Home Sweet Home' on the piano, live on TV in just seven days. And he has never played the piano before...

The Happy Family Plan is a funny, heart-warming tale that reminds us of the importance of family, community and the joy of reaching a goal no matter how big or small.

A POCKETFUL OF RYE
Episode 1
Rex Fortescue, head of a family firm of financiers, dies suddenly in his office in the City. Yew poisoning is diagnosed. Inspector Neele&8217;s only clue is a handful of rye found in the deceased&8217;s jacket pocket.

Fortescue had two sons: Percival (cautious and orthodox) and his younger brother, Lance, flamboyant, outgoing and last heard of in Africa. The family live at Yew Tree Lodge, a sombre house in the commuter belt. Rex had recently married a very much younger woman, Adele, who has a lover, Vivian. The house is presided over by Mary Dove, a cool, superior young housekeeper. Among the staff is a young housemaid, Gladys, who was trained in the Hampshire village of St Mary Mead by none other than Miss Jane Marple.

Suspicion falls on the members of the household when the poison is identified as yew. The arrival of Lance causes more tension. Before his death Rex had secretly invited his prodigal son to rejoin the family firm. He was already on his way with his wife Pat when he read of his father&8217;s death. Shortly after his arrival, Adele is found dead. She too has been poisoned and it seems that almost everyone has a financial motive.

Miss Marple hears of the double murder on the radio .The connection to her is clear &8211; the nursery rhyme: A Pocketful Of Rye

THE MURDER AT THE VICARAGE
Colonel Lucius Protheroe has never been popular, but Miss Marple is surprised to overhear the Reverend Leonard Clement, vicar of St. Mary&8217;s, complaining about him most vehemently. As the day progresses, just how much he is loathed in the village becomes evident.
Bill Archer, recently released from prison for poaching, is warned by Mary, the vicarage maid, to keep out of the Colonel&8217;s way as he is hell-bent on putting Archer back inside.

Even Lettice, the Colonel&8217;s daughter, is mad at her father, after an incident involving Lawrence Redding, an attractive young artist. She can now understand why her mother left him many years ago.
Clement later discovers Ann, the Colonel&8217;s second wife, in the arms of the artist. She confesses her love for Redding and her unhappiness with Protheroe.
Griselda finds her &8216;at home&8217; party for the village gossips dominated by discussion of the Colonel&8217;s faults. The recent arrival of the mysterious, reclusive Mrs Lestrange and her relationship with Dr Haydock barely gets a mention.

The following day, the Colonel is found dead. Detective Inspector Slack arrives at the scene of the crime and is none-too-pleased to find Miss Marple already there, and as far as he is concerned the case is concluded when the next day Lawrence Redding confesses to killing the Colonel. But Dr Haydock maintains that at the time of death Redding was elsewhere, and Ann Protheroe insists that she shot her husband and Redding has confessed to save her &8211; although another witness contradicts her whereabouts at the time the shot was heard.
Miss Marple has her own theories and Slack, with his usual bad grace, is forced to turn once again to her for help.

SLEEPING MURDER
Newly arrived from New Zealand, Giles and Gwenda Reed are searching for a suitable home in England. Hillside, a Victorian villa overlooking the seaside resort of Dillmouth, seems ideal. But no sooner have they bought it and moved in, than strange things begin to happen. Gwenda can&8217;t shake off the feeling that she has been here before and she feels an irrational sense of terror every time she climbs the stairs. To dispel her mounting panic she agrees to join Giles in London where he is visiting a distant cousin, Raymond West.

Raymond is also playing host to his favourite aunt, Jane Marple. As part of her birthday celebrations he has arranged a theatre visit to see The Duchess of Malfi. During the performance Gwenda screams and runs terrified from the theatre. Later that night she tells Miss Marple of the vision she had of being on the stairs in Hillside, looking down into the hall at the body of a young woman who has been strangled, and knowing that her name was Helen.

Giles and Gwenda return to Devon, determined to uncover the secret of Hillside and the identity of Helen. Miss Marple, fearing the consequences, follows them to Dillmouth under the pretext of &8220;needing a little sea air&8221;.

It is soon established that, as a very young child, Gwenda had lived at Hillside with her father, Major Halliday, and his new young wife, Helen Kennedy. Helen&8217;s sudden disappearance one night had been the subject of much local conjecture. It is Dr Kennedy, Helen&8217;s older brother, who eventually comes forward to recount his story of the events that led up to her departure, and explain the subsequent fate of Major Halliday.

Gwenda is much distressed to learn that, contrary to local gossip, Helen had run off with another man. It was her father&8217;s firm belief that he had strangled her and in consequence had ended his life in a sanitorium for the mentally ill. Even the fact that there was no body, and that Dr Kennedy subsequently received letters from Helen from abroad, could not shake his protestations of guilt.

Miss Marple hints that they should search for &8220;the other man&8221; &8211; the someone else in Helen&8217;s life. Giles and Gwenda visit the sanitorium. They meet Dr Penrose, who expresses his doubts about Major Halliday&8217;s insanity and gives Gwenda the diary her father had been keeping up to his death. In it she reads: &8220;I always knew &8211; from the very first &8211; that there was someone else.&8221;

1. A Caribbean Mystery
Miss Marple is holidaying in Barbados, courtesy of her generous nephew. Ever-alert, she spends her first day at the Golden Palm Hotel taking stock of her fellow guests: hotel owners Tim and Molly Kendal; Edward and Evelyn Hillingdon who, with Greg and Lucky Dyson, spend their time on botanic expeditions which are not what quite they appear to be. Then there is eccentric millionaire Jason Rafiel, his secretary, Esther Walters, and his servant, Jackson. And finally there is Major Palgrave, the hotel bore, whose fund of interminable tales make him a joke amongst the other guests. He corners Miss Marple with a tale about a strange coincidence. Just as he is about to show her an astonishing photograph, the Major's attention wanders.
He never does finish the story &8211; the Major is found dead on the floor of his cottage. Everyone except Miss Marple accepts that he died of natural causes. But with so many weird and wonderful characters lurking in and around the hotel, it seems that even she will have difficulty pointing the local police in the right direction. And when more murders follow, she knows that it is vital for her to crack the case.

2. They Do It With Mirrors
Why is Ruth van Rydock worried about her sister? To reassure her old friend, Miss Marple agrees to go down to Stonygates, the rambling country mansion where Carrie-Louise lives with her third husband, Lewis Serrocold. There she finds herself in the midst of a bizarre m&233;nage &8211; an extended family and a reformatory for young criminals &8211; where violence seems just below the surface.
Shots are fired in a darkened room, but the victim is discovered elsewhere. Miss Marple soon deduces the identity of the killer but not how it was done &8211; until she discovers Inspector Slack&8217;s secret hobby.

3. The Mirror Crack&8217;d From Side To Side
The famous actress Marina Gregg has moved into Gossington Hall (scene of The Body in the Library). At a reception for her at the village fete, local busybody Heather Badcock dies after drinking a cocktail. Inspector Craddock is put on the case and, with some guidance from his aunt, Miss Marple, concludes that Marina was the killer&8217;s real target. There is certainly no shortage of suspects. Could Marina&8217;s film director husband Jason and her producer Ardwyck Fenn be scheming for the insurance? Ella Zielinsky, Marina&8217;s secretary, has a more passionate motive: she is madly in love with Jason. Or would the chance to step into Marina&8217;s role make Lola Brewster, a rival and ambitious actress, contemplate murder? Then there is the mysterious Margo Bence, top fashion photographer: what secrets lie in her enigmatic past?

Older and frailer she might be, but Miss Marple still has all her intuitive powers and they are fully stretched when Ella becomes the second murder victim. It is only after she pieces together the full story of what happened on the day of the fete that she and Craddock are finally able to confront the killer.

Baby Bliss

[ 0 Comments ] Written by Quin Rose on 17/03/10 @ 3:00PM. Located In Syndicated News

As a mother of four and a teacher of baby yoga for many years I have found that yoga has helped my children as much as me to thrive. Baby yoga is a particularly beautiful way to bond and spend time with a young baby and can be started as young as newborn.
The benefits of Baby yoga are endless and it is great for parents, grandparents and carers alike. With stimulating eye contact baby yoga helps nurture a greater responsiveness and deeper bonding between carer and baby, whilst on a physiological level it is stimulating all the systems within the baby&8217;s body simultaneously. The digestive system is stimulated to relive colic and wind, the respiratory system is stimulated to aid lung development and breathing, muscles and joints are mobilized to activate and strengthen the baby&8217;s muscles and tissues and by relaxing the baby a more quality sleep can be achieved. All of this helps to establish a healthy foundation for your baby&8217;s body and mind but Baby yoga also helps the parent or carer to feel more confident and involved with the child.

Baby yoga is wonderful for all carers and it can also be particularly helpful if your baby has been separated from you at birth in the hospital and you feel you missed out on that early bonding time. It can also be very helpful to mothers suffering from post natal depression as it offers a guided activity to do with a creature who is otherwise really too young to do much more than sleep, feed or cry!!!
Included within the DVD are three sequences.
1. Baby yoga : 12 minutes
2. Baby yoga and Massage : 20 minutes
3. Playtime yoga for more active older babies : 10 minutes

Chris and Don

CHRIS & DON: A LOVE STORY is the true-life story of the passionate three-decade relationship between British writer Christopher Isherwood (whose Berlin Stories was the basis for all incarnations of the much-beloved Cabaret) and American portrait painter Don Bachardy, thirty years his junior. From Isherwood&8217;s Kit-Kat-Club years in Weimar-era Germany (the inspiration for his most famous work) to the couple&8217;s first meeting on the sun-kissed beaches of 1950s Malibu, their against-all-odds saga is brought to dazzling life by a treasure trove of multimedia. Bachardy&8217;s contemporary reminiscences (in the Santa Monica home he shared with Isherwood until his death in 1986) artfully interact with archival footage, rare home movies (with glimpses of glitterati pals W.H. Auden, Igor Stravinsky and Tennessee Williams), reenactments, and, most sweetly, whimsical animations based on the cat-and-horse cartoons the pair used in their personal correspondence. With Isherwood&8217;s status as an out-and-proud gay maverick, and Bachardy&8217;s eventual artistic triumph away from the considerable shadow of his life partner, CHRIS & DON: A LOVE STORY is above all a joyful celebration of a most extraordinary couple.

Eden is West

[ 0 Comments ] Written by Quin Rose on 17/03/10 @ 3:00PM. Located In Syndicated News

Legendary Greek director Costa-Gavras (Z, Missing, The Ax) returns with perhaps his most personal film, a playful fairy tale which tackles both the hardships suffered by illegal immigrants to Europe, and the magical nature of a world in which every experience is full of both promise and threat.

Just as in the Odyssey of Homer, the adventures of Elias begin on the Aegean Sea. A rusting trawler packed with men, women and children clandestinely approaches the bright lights of an emerging shore&8212;we may not know where they all began but we know where they hope to arrive: the West, a real as well as mythical place. For Elias (Riccardo Scarmarcio) this is literally Eden Club Paradise, the name of the resort where he washes up and begins his extraordinary journey to reach Paris. In Elias travels across a microcosm of contemporary Europe, Costa-Gavras has crafted an epic story for our times, one full of heart, humour and wondrous complexities.
